Nine Emperor Gods Temple

Nine Emperor Gods Temple, Ampang

Info: The temple in Ampang comes to life, once a year, during the Nine Emperor Gods Festival. For nine days, the temple and its surroundings take on a carnival-like atmosphere with a traditional opera, street processions, dragon dances and giant joss sticks. Panhandlers and all sorts of stalls invade the temple grounds, resulting in a fascinating riot of colours, sounds and smells. The official romanised spelling ‘Kau Ong Yah’ (Hokkien) is also referred to as ‘Kow Wong Yeh’ (Cantonese). Nine Emperor Gods Festival dates can be found in MyCen Calendar.

Hi Cheryl, you have done a very very good job. The photos that you provided are so interesting and good shoot too. I’m planning to go on this year to pay a visit for the 9 emperor gods festival at Ampang. But too bad as I’m not really sure about the direction.

I’m from Ipoh and have not been to this temple in Ampang yet, though I hope to visit one day during the Nine Emperor Gods festival.

In Ipoh, the main Nine Emperor Gods temple is called “Tow Boh Keong” in Jalan Tokong, Ipoh. You can read more about it here on my blog:
