Kampar in Perak is famous for a number of food. Kampar is the birthplace of chikcen biscuits and is also well known for fish ball noodles. I have tried only the famous ABC (Ais Batu Campur) iced dessert from the 40 year old Foong Mun Kee shop and the Curry Chicken in a Bun or bread at Yau Kee. The small town has gained prominence with the opening of the UTAR campus.

That resulted in the opening of hotels to cater to visiting parents of students and also for new students seeking temporary accommodation. All along, Kampar had many small hotels because of its proximity to white water rafting rivers and to the caving site of Gua Tempurung in Gopeng.
Grand Kampar Hotel
As a former tin mining town, the landscape is dotted with many mining ponds now turned into lakes and attractions for anglers. Foodie places and food hunt are driving domestic tourism and many people make stop over in Perak towns such as Bidor, Kampar and Ipoh just for the food.The biggest hotel, the Grand Kampar Hotel, is surprisingly big and has its own ballroom and a rooftop swimming pool.
The grand and luxury hotel, which was built in the late 1800s, was bought by the Dorchester Collection in 2013. It’s been closed since and was undergoing extensive renovation and restoration. The Italian jewel is now opened again (as of 1st April 2017).
It is located between between the Via Veneto and Spanish Steps and is surrounded by the gardens of the Ludovisi, Borghese, and Malta villas as described by Condé Nast Traveller. They also said the famous gourmet restaurant La Terrazza dell’Eden was outrageously expensive. It is a classic five star hotel in Rome, Europe.
